New Years Resolutions from the Team

While 2018 has come to an end, the Make a Thing of Beauty team reflect and share a couple of our New Years Resolutions that are topping our lists.

  1. Get Healthy
Like most people, I’ve given myself the typical “Lose Weight” resolution more times than I can count. But this year, I don’t want to focus on the number on the scale, I want to focus on how I feel: inside and out. 2018 really did a number on my body and mind, so this year I want to consume more foods, products and media that is healthy for me and the environment as well as taking up a bit of reflective yoga or meditation.
  2. Create More
I’ve always been a bit of a creative soul, beginning to draw at a young age and picking it up again in my 20’s. My creativity is what sparked my need and desire to put my thoughts into words. I started Starkiller Reads many moons ago and while I still read and still post on it, I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve let it go. Which is why I want to create more in 2019. I want to write my little heart out about everything I love and I want to finally pluck those zines and comics out of my head and put them in the real world.

  1. Get Stronger
The results are obvious: working out helps your body, your mind, and it doesn’t have to take all day. Exercise is one of the most fundamental things we can do for ourselves yet it gets frequently overlooked as my schedule gets squeezed tighter and tighter as free time is sacrificed at the altar of “busy”. So, 20 squats when I get home from work, every day. No exceptions.
  2. Read More
A strong body is useless without an equally worthwhile mind behind it. Reading is a great way to improve your intelligence and expand your horizons. The smartest, richest people in the world are active readers. And it’s just plain fun. Fiction, nonfiction, bring it on — this is the year I’m going to make a serious dent in the “unread books” column of my bookshelf.

  1. Experience more of what the world has to offer
Anyone who knows me, knows that I typically spend my time either studying or working. This year, I want to be able to take more breaks and enjoy the time I have with friends and family. “Adulting” shouldn’t be an excuse to stay overwhelmingly busy and work yourself to the bone. This year, I will make more time to enjoy the company of others and create long-lasting memories. Maybe plan a trip overseas for a change.
  2. Eat healthier
I’m not sure about joining a gym and putting hundreds of dollars towards a membership I probably won’t use, but I will make more of a conscious effort to fuel my body with nature’s goodness and make time to be active in various simple and free ways (like dancing!). I am horrible when it comes to being active. My best friend Sarah can attest to my inability to keep a hiking appointment (lol). We even made one two years in advance and I didn’t make it, I always use my busy schedule as an excuse.

From your friends at Make a Thing of Beauty we want you to know that this year is the year for the dreamers, so go out and dare to dream.

Happy New Year
